SCAO Project Hope – Illuminating Lives
18 May 2023
Singapore
Our first 100SEED event of FY2023 was named “Illuminating Lives”.
Nearly 10% of the world’s population live in energy poverty, with little or no access to safe and reliable energy. This severely limits their lives and well-being. With our “Illuminating Lives” initiative, we hope to enable access by giving the gift of light.
On 18 May, 36 SCAO volunteers partnered with 29 students from the Association for Persons with Special Needs (APSN) to assemble 200 units of solar lights at SCAO office. These solar lights were in turn delivered to children living in energy poverty in Cambodia by our social compact partner, Solar Buddy. The children will be able to use these solar lights for their studies at night and to support other activities in their daily lives in a more sustainable way.
See our impact calculator here.
Volunteers and students alike had a great time assembling the solar lights and penning down their messages for the beneficiaries. They were so efficient and enthusiastic that they kept asking for more units to work on!
After assembling the lights, we brought the APSN students on an office tour around SCAO. The teachers were enormously grateful as it was an eye-opening experience for the students who had no prior exposure to a corporate environment.
SCAO Project Hope will continue to illuminate lives and bring a brighter future to our future generations. Stay tuned!
