Indonesia
The consortium comprising Sumitomo Corporation (SC), PT Energia Prima Nusantara (Astra group company) and Hitachi Zosen achieved significant milestone by winning the waste-to-energy project in West Java, Indonesia.
SC, as the Leader of the Consortium, has dedicated its best effort from the beginning of the project up till receiving the Letter of Awards granted by West Java Government on 31 July 2023. Some may say that this is a historical moment for Indonesia, as this Project will be the first large-scale modern waste-to-energy project.
This achievement would not have been possible without the solid teamwork and support from Management, especially in allowing other experienced divisions to assist us in preparing the tender documents.
The Project
There are many firsts in Legok Nangka waste-to-energy (WTE) project.
- In term of scheme, it will be the first Public-Private Partnership (PPP) project for WTE in Indonesia.
- In term of scale, it will be the first large-scale modern WTE project in Indonesia.
- In term of Government support, it will be the first WTE project that receives Viability Gap Fund from the Minister of Finance of the Republic of Indonesia.
- In term of technology, the incinerator grate will be the first technology used in Indonesia.
Located in West Java Indonesia, this facility will treat around 2,000 Ton per day of solid waste collected from 6 municipalities and generate around 35MW of electricity.
With total project cost around USD 420 million, this project will be funded by using project finance scheme with majority from Japanese ECA. In addition to that, the Minister of Environment of Japan has announced to support this project by JF-JCM mechanism as its contribution to the de-carbonisation initiative in this project.
The Team
In this project, we saw the intensive collaboration among Power Infrastructure Department Number 7, PT Summit Niaga at Jakarta and Summit Global Power at Abu Dhabi during the preparation of the necessary arrangement for the tender and project documents. We are also truly grateful for the support from other divisions in SC HQ and our peer company (PT Central Java Power) in Indonesia which allow us to receive valuable knowledge and assistance. This winning is yours too!
