Supports through scholarship programme

As part of our Corporate Social Responsibility, Sumitomo Corporation has been awarding scholarships to talented underprivileged student at University of Dhaka.

On 18 February, the SCAO Dhaka office organised a Scholarship Award Programme, which was attended by the esteemed Vice Chancellor, Pro Vice Chancellor, and respected faculty members of the university, along with the scholarship recipients. Mr. Hironori Yamanaka, GM of the SCAO Dhaka office, graced the ceremony as a special guest.

A total of 40 outstanding students were awarded scholarships, each receiving approximately USD 350. During the event, we had the privilege of hearing from the students about their challenges and the impact of our scholarship programme on their educational journeys.

Supports through 100SEED Project

As part of the “Enriching Lives and the World” initiative, Sumitomo has been implementing the 100Seed Project, which focuses on promoting quality education, since 2019. The SCAO Dhaka Office is partnering with NGOs, Ekmattra Society and Shapla Neer, to support underprivileged street children and domestic girl workers. We recently visited both organisations to observe their activities and assess the progress of the 2 programmes we have sponsored:

Farming experience in Ekmattra Society:

This year, we have provided support to Ekmattra Society through the provision of farming tools and training. The farming experience programme has made a meaningful contribution to promoting sustainable development for both the students and the environment. On 13 February , we visited Ekmattra to observe the children’s farming experiences and the outcomes of the project. We were delighted to see the variety of vegetables and fruits grown in the garden by the children. To further encourage their interest in farming and support their sustainable future, we also planted a few plants alongside them.

Annual Sports Day in SHAPLA NEER:

We are partnering with SHAPLA NEER to advocate for the basic human rights of domestic girl workers who have been deprived of these fundamental entitlements. As part of our support, we made a donation to SHAPLA NEER to establish two education centers that provide essential education and mental support to domestic girl workers. On 18 February, we attended the Annual Sports Day Programme organised by SHAPLA NEER at Azimpur, Dhaka. During the event, we observed the enthusiasm and strong community engagement in efforts to ensure the basic rights of these individuals.
