North Hanoi Smart City project – a joint venture between SC and local partner BRG Group in Hanoi, Vietnam, with total estimated investment of nearly US$4.2 billion, has always been receiving great attention and acclaims from the local government and people.

Considering it as a typical example of foreign direct investment (FDI) into Vietnam in general and Hanoi capital in particular, Hanoi Television had an interview with SCVN General Director Mr Hidemasa Kozawa about this project, ahead of a big investment promotion conference to be held by Hanoi City on 27 June 2020. 

During the interview, Hanoi Television asked Mr Kozawa about the reason for Sumitomo’s investment in the Smart City project, the potential for urban development and what the investors expect from Hanoi City’s Leaders.

In response, Mr Kozawa emphasised that Hanoi is the key economic area of the country, so building a smart city in Hanoi will create a driving force for the development of many localities in the region. It will also help ease the increasing population pressure on Hanoi city and be in line with Hanoi city’s masterplan to develop the wide area between Noi Bai international airport and Red river including this project site. Thus, this area is evaluated as high potential land and expected to become the new centre of Hanoi city in the future.

Mr Kozawa expressed his great desire that the Project continues to receive much support from the City’s leaders in accelerating the legal procedures relating to construction and land acquisition. He also hoped for more guidance and support from Hanoi City relating to the application of new smart technologies for environmental preservation, mobility services, town management and establishing community etc for the Smart City.
