On 10 July 2020, we have successfully delivered a newbuilding vessel to Indonesia’s leading ship-owning company named “PT Lumoso Pratama Line” based in Jakarta. The order for series of two 82,000 deadweight bulk carriers was awarded to us on 31 October 2018. These vessels were constructed at our Oshima Shipbuilding Co., Ltd., located at Japan’s Nagasaki Prefecture. Due to Covid-19, the proper naming and delivery ceremony was unfortunately cancelled. However, the vessel bearing Hull No. 10958 was duly named Motor Vessel “Lumoso Kasih” and sailed out from the shipyard without delay. While it was our first time dealing with PT Lumoso, it was their first memorable newbuilding vessel from Japan. It was also Oshima’s first-time order from an Indonesian ship-owner.
This vessel is a Kamsarmax-type vessel and is one of Oshima’s best-selling models. Kamsarmax carries cargoes such as coal, iron ore, grain, fertiliser and such. Length overall is 229m while breadth is 32.26m, which is the maximum breadth allowed to pass through old Panama Canal.
What is particularly significant about this deal is that this vessel was specifically ordered to serve our coal-fired power plant Tanjung Jati B No. 5 & No. 6, which is currently under construction. The vessel will carry coal from Kalimantan to plant site in East Java for a period of more than 15 years from its commissioning. Constant supply of coal to the power plant is most crucial for producing electricity in the region. Thousands of people will benefit from stable source of electricity for a long period of time.
This is also a good example of internal collaboration between SC’s Ship & Marine Project Dept and Power Infrastructure Dept. We are proud of delivering a high performance and reliable vessel from Oshima that benefits both departments and our company. We are always seeking for similar opportunities across our other Business Units. Please feel free to contact us if you have any thoughts or ideas.
