Exclusive Interview with
DX Center GM Mr Masayoshi Hasegawa

“Don’t worry, there is light at the end of the tunnel”
Mr Masayoshi Hasegawa
General Manager of DX Center
Sumitomo Corporation Asia & Oceania Pte. Ltd.
DX Center is a relatively new setup in SCAO group. Please share with us what your team has been working on and what you hope to achieve in SCAO group through DX.
Our team is pursuing business “pains (challenges) and needs” inside and outside of our group through close communication with business units, regional offices, group companies and partners.
Once business “pains and needs” are found, we will discuss with the counterparts on how to remove the pains and how to bring the needs to new business through digital technology, and possibly, we may be able to propose good solutions and new business ideas.
We hope to contribute to SCAO business through digital technology.

It is said that transformations are hard, and digital ones are harder. In your opinion, how should we all work together to overcome the challenges?
It is easy and comfortable to stay unchanged. However, transformation will never happen without us changing ourselves. We need courage to change. Otherwise, we would become boiling frog*. So, let’s move forward together!
* Boiling frog – an idiom referring to a situation gradually becoming worse, without those involved realising the peril affecting them until it’s too late.
What is your perspective on technology vs human?
Human cannot make progress without technology but technology can never become meaningful unless human uses it properly. Technology is never to replace human but to assist human to work better and smarter.
