Cambodia - Fried crispy insects and fermented dessert!
In Cambodia, people consume fried insects as their snack or appetiser such as fried Tarantulas (spider), scorpions and coconut worms. The common method of cooking fried insects is by deep-frying until they are brown and crispy. They taste very good as well as crunchy and Cambodians eat them as specialty snack.
The history behind this food is that during the Khmer Rouge, food sources had fallen short and residents became desperate which led them to forage for insects in nearby forests to eat and continue this practice until now. This food has became a specialty in Cambodia and is popular with tourists. Dare to try one?

It is as tasty as your regular fried snacks, or even better!

Tapai is known as a strange dessert for its unique flavour to foreigners. However, it’s a very popular classic dessert for Cambodians. Tapai is made using fermented sticky black rice that contains 5% of alcohol, and it tastes a bit sour and less sweet. People usually consume it with freshly shredded coconut flesh. It takes the longest processing time (up to 1 week) among all desserts to be ready for serving. You will surely love it after the first bite!

Does it look like a chocolate dessert?
