Soc Trang Province – Home of Cultural Diversity

I was born and raised in Soc Trang Province which situated in Southwest Vietnam. It is a beautiful region where various cultures coexisted in harmony with 3 ethnic groups: Kinh (Original Vietnamese), Khmer (originated from Cambodia), and Hoa (originated from China).

Each group contributes to the province’s cultural diversity by having its own language, and distinguishing traits. Hoa is famous for their traditional Pia Cake and Lion Dance where, the Khmer is well recognised for their spectacular pagodas and festivals. People in particular areas with presence of these 3 ethnic groups have unintentionally become multilingual by being able to speak Vietnamese, Tieu (Hoa’s language), and Khmer.

Soc Trang is a unique place where ancient and modern Vietnamese culture is exhibited through the language, lifestyle, festivals, cuisine, and pagodas.
