SCTL D&I Initiatives
New Year Merit Making Ceremony

To start the New Year 2023, SCTL on 27 January, held a ceremony called New Year Merit Making Ceremony which was attended by all colleagues who were in good spirit for having achieved the company target FY2022. Besides offering our gratitude for a fruitful FY2022, we also sought blessing for the company and success and happiness for all the staff.

In Thai culture, we believe that offerings dedicated to monks from the temple (in Thai we call Sang-Ka-Tarn) have a lot of merit. This time, we invited 9 monks as a group representative from Wat Hua Lampong to our office. The offerings dedicated to monks had been prepared by the company while staff were allowed to prepare their own offerings. Apparently this ritual would bring morale, fortune and prosperity to all. This ritual lasted 2 hours. After their Ceremony ended, all colleagues enjoyed a good lunch together, which was provided by the company, at the canteen.

After this Merit Making Ceremony, we hope to improve harmony, team work and a supportive culture organisation-wide regardless of ranking, department, nationality, age and gender.

Power Up

As part of the CSR programme under 100SEED, SCTL’s Power Up project organised a workshop on 7 February 2023. This workshop is to prepare university students to be ready to step into the working world with competence and confidence. Forty-four university students attended the workshop. It is hoped that this workshop would equip them with the necessary knowledge, skill and mindset to advance their career in the future.

In this workshop, we had a diverse group of colleagues who participated as presenters for various topics. The 5 topics were front office functional works, back office functional works, business development, D&I and career opportunity in the new normal. Our diverse presenters comprised different nationalities, genders, departments and rankings. Each presenter took 5 minutes to cover each topic. For D&I topic, its committee representative spoke on what is D&I, D&I in Sumitomo context, how to work with different people and cultures, and benefits of D&I.

We had a Q&A session after the presentation to allow the university students to seek clarifications. We were surprised by their willingness to ask questions and we pleasantly answered them.

This workshop not only benefited the students but also improved the D&I culture among our colleagues.
