Ho Chi Minh City organised a trial run of Metro line No. 1 on 21 December 2022, which was attended by HCMC Party Secretary Mr Nguyen Van Nen and Japanese Ambassador Mr Takio Yamada.

The test run involved a train with three cars, running around 9 km of elevated section between Suoi Tien Terminal station and Binh Thai station (Sumitomo Corporation is in charge of construction for 17.2km of elevated section, 11 stations, and Depot). During the journey, the train stopped to pick up and drop off passengers at High Tech Park Station. The test run marks the transition from construction to trial run in preparation for the line’s commercial service scheduled in 2024.

The project entity, Management Authority for Urban Railways (MAUR), has committed to working alongside the contractor to speed up the project implementation and progress for year 2023, to mark the 50th anniversary of Vietnam-Japan diplomatic relations.
