From the pandemic to geopolitical tensions to digital and green transformation, we have been living in a world of constant disruptions. How do you navigate these complexities to ensure your business not only survives but thrives?

In today’s dynamic world, I believe we need a versatile approach to ensure that our business not only survives but thrives amidst disruptions. Firstly, it’s crucial to stay updated. This means I keep monitoring and attuning to the pulse of global trends that impacts our world.

Self-adaptation is the key to resilience. I think businesses must remain agile and open to change. This means I regularly review strategies and operations to prepare for changes when it is necessary. I also support a culture of innovation within the organisation.

Moreover, an effective business implementation is the key to success. It involves translating insights from global trends into actions such as embracing digital tools, adopting sustainable practices, and aligning business strategies with evolving market demands.

In conclusion, I believe that navigating these complexities requires a proactive approach to anticipate change which include staying informed about global trends, prioritising self-adaptation, and executing strategies that reflect the changing landscape. This way, we will not only overcome challenges but also find opportunities for new growth and success.

As the Division GM, how do you foster a positive and collaborative work environment?

As the Division GM, my approach in supporting a positive and collaborative work environment is to create a close-knit, family-like atmosphere. I avoid top-down management in my division by breaking down the wall of hierarchies and boundaries. I believe that it could make my team members feel comfortable to approach me, like talking to a friend.

To build a connecting community, I make myself to be a reliable resource whom my team members can talk to anytime. I put myself in their shoes to deeply listen and understand their situations. Our division periodically arranges social gatherings for some special occasions. It is our division’s tradition to organise events like birthday parties and dinners after work, where everyone feels included and recognised.

In a nutshell, my leadership style is built on trust, empathy, and a commitment to creating a collaborative, family-like environment where my team members can thrive and contribute their best.

We heard that you are good at golfing and cooking. Could you please share with us more?

Absolutely! Cooking has been my passion since childhood. My mom is my inspiration for cooking. She taught me how to make omelets when I was just a kid, and I have been having fun in the kitchen ever since. I love to read my mom’s cooking books and being her kitchen hand for making cakes. During the Covid-19 pandemic, I found myself cooking even more! And if I had to pick my best dish, it would be Boeuf Bourguignon – a classic that never disappoints!

On the other hand, my journey into golf began around 20 years ago, more than 10 years after I joined SCTL. It was motivated by Japanese colleagues. All along, I have always enjoyed watching all kinds of sports, and playing badminton and tennis. Golf did not initially catch my interest. However, one day I had to approach a customer who was an enthusiastic golfer. He introduced me to golf and even took me to a golf school. Since then, I have been hooked onto it. In other words, golf, to me, is a challenging sport that reflects the character and behaviour of its players, making it a fascinating and rewarding pursuit.
