SCAO Energy Dept is working on several Energy projects in this region, but we can say one of the biggest targets for us is to materialise business opportunities in the LNG sector, especially in midstream and downstream. It has never been easy for us since Sumitomo has been behind its competitors in LNG industry. However, as part of the company-wide MOU with Petronas, our team led by SCAO Energy Dept GM Mr Shuichi Horie, has been working extremely hard to seek opportunities for collaboration with each other particularly in relation to LNG Bunkering business.
After one year of intensive discussion with Petronas, we could finally reach an agreement and therefore, executed the Memorandum of Collaboration (MOC) with Petronas for LNG Bunkering business as well as Low Sulphur Fuel Oil business on 17 July 2020!
This MOC describes the basic concept of our collaboration. More details and specific discussions will be held between our Tokyo Bunker team and Petronas. However, this is definitely a significant progress on our LNG business in this region and we will keep working hard to expand our collaboration with Petronas.
