SCAO, PMB Aluminium Sdn Bhd (Press Metal), and Nandina Remanufacturing Pte. Ltd. (Nandina REM) signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on 5 October 2023 that will drive their shared ambition of advancing the use of low-carbon circular aviation materials in the automotive industry. By pooling their expertise,  these 3 companies will expand the use of raw materials derived from retiring aircraft, such as airplanes and helicopters, to drive sustainable manufacturing goals.

The companies adopt a shared vision of circular economy approaches towards value creation in industrial production. Based on the MoU, SCAO and Press Metal will support Nandina REM’s work to scale their world first Aviation-to-Electric Vehicle (EV) Circular Economy Model. Nandina REM successfully concluded its Proof of Concept in June 2023, and is embarking on the next stage of collaboration with private and public sector partners. It will work with SCAO and Press Metal to create verifiable low-carbon alloys using Nandina Circular Aviation Materials, prioritised for automotive EV customers. The MoU was signed at an official ceremony at the International Greentech & Eco Products Exhibition & Conference Malaysia (IGEM) in Kuala Lumpur, witnessed by Deputy Prime Minister of Malaysia Dato’ Sri Haji Fadillah bin Haji Yusof. Attendees include Tan Sri Dato’ Koon Poh Keong, the founder and group CEO of Press Metal; Mr Ivan Gan, Head of Sustainability of Press Metal; Mr Kwek Jin Saye, SCAO CEO for Singapore Operation and GM  of Non-Ferrous Metals Business Unit; Ms Karina Cady, CEO of Nandina REM; Dr Dazril Phua, COO of Nandina REM; and Ms Allison Nam, CSO of Nandina REM.

Ms Karina Cady, Nandina REM CEO said, “Press Metal and Sumitomo Corporation excel in business creation and building partnerships. Together we can create an accelerated pathway to bring low-carbon metals to market as EV production and demand soar in Southeast Asia in the coming years – making a measurable, permanent impact on the delivery of sustainability in both the aviation and automotive sectors.”

Sumitomo Corporation Malaysia office (SCMY) will assist in looking for solutions to cooperate with Nandina REM to complete the recycle material supply chain.
