SCAO Project Hope educates students on sustainability through tour and upcycling workshop

August 2022
Singapore

After 2 years of covid-19 restrictions, regulations are finally eased in Singapore.

On 29 August, SCAO organised an educational gallery tour and an upcycling workshop for the students of Association for Person with Special Needs (APSN). Sustainability has always been integral to Singapore’s development since independence, and we have been tackling challenges to ensure that everyone continues to enjoy a clean and green environment. Through the guided tour, the students get the chance to learn more about how to create a liveable and sustainable Singapore.

In the upcycling workshop, students got their hands-on experience in using recycled material to produce artworks of their own – fabric yarn coaster mat from disused t-shirt yarn and LED design lamp from plastic milk cartons. The volunteers worked hand in hand with the students, assisting them at all time. It was heartwarming to all volunteers to see a bright smile on each student’s face, showing their artwork around happily. The students also could brought back the artwork home. This was a great experience for the students to learn something out of their normal curriculum in school, as well as to understand the importance of sustainability hence contribute a small part.

SCAO Project Hope continues to aim to provide quality education to individuals which they do not normally experience through volunteering activities.
