“Illuminating Lives” event, in collaboration with Solar Buddy and APSN, aims to empower underprivileged children by providing solar lighting, enabling them to study and thrive. This initiative seeks to combat energy poverty and nurture every child’s potential, creating a brighter future. By offering sustainable energy solutions, the event aspires to inspire hope and ensure every child has the opportunity to shine.

On 17 July, a team of 30 SCAO volunteers and 25 APSN students collaborated to assemble 200 solar lights at the SCAO office. These lights were then distributed by Solar Buddy to countries suffering from energy poverty, enabling students to study at night and engage in daily activities sustainably. The event was a success, with volunteers and students eagerly participating and expressing a desire to do more. We hope our efforts can brighten the future of the next generation.

After the “Illuminating Lives” event, SCAO further hosted an upcycling workshop for the students to gain valuable lessons on sustainability and contribute to environmental conservation. During the workshop, the students creatively transformed recycled materials into personal artworks, such as making a banner name card case using upcycled banners. Our volunteers supported the students throughout the workshop earnestly, creating a rewarding experience for all, marked by the students’ proud display of their creations.
