SCAO Project Hope – Supporting Passion for the Arts

“Supporting Passion for the Arts” was our second 100SEED event of FY2023.
On 1 July, to empower the pursuit of theatrical performance and production, SCAO sponsored a group of financially disadvantaged youths from The Business Times Budding Artists Fund (BT BAF) to gain access to the highly anticipated play “HOTEL”. In collaboration with Wild Rice Production, we also organised a post-performance Q&A with the HOTEL production crew to learn more about the makings behind the scene. Wild Rice is both a leading theatrical company and a registered charity.
A multi-award, immersive and multi-generational epic spanning 9 languages, HOTEL explores the notions of empire, nationhood and migration against the backdrop of a shrinking world, highlighting the eclectic energies born from the collisions between the old and the new, East and West, tradition and modernity. One of the most endearing moments was the appearance of Mr Koji Miyoshi, GM of SCAO IT Planning & Promotion Dept in the play! Believe it or not – he is an actor and actively volunteers in plays.
The Arts forms a holistic part of Singapore’s educational landscape but remains lacking in support from society. Our BT BAF beneficiaries were extremely grateful for this opportunity to watch the performance and interact with their idols – famous playwright Mr Alfian Sa’at and artistic director Mr Glen Goei, as well as amazing actors like Mr Moo Siew Keh and Mr Koji Miyoshi. Through our support, we hope to encourage our beneficiaries to pursue their passion, be inspired by the story of HOTEL and continue to imagine a future that is possible!
