Joint CSR Initiative Part 1
25 November 2023
Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia
For the first time, SCAOKL/SCMY collaborated with SMBC, SMFL and MSIG in conducting a CSR event, that is we visited an orphanage, Pure Life Society, on 25 November 2023. To find out more about Pure Life Society (PLS), please follow this link https://purelifesociety.org.my
The event kicked-off at around 11.00 a.m. with the delivery of speeches by PLS’ vice-president Dato V. L. Kandan and representatives of Sumitomo Group, followed by the donation of 4 sets of new computers.
We also taught the 49 students (age ranges from 7 to 17 years old) to make sushi for our lunch. We could feel that they truly enjoyed the cooking session as they kept calling us ‘aunties’ and ‘uncles’ to seek advice and taste their sushi. At the end of the session, there was one team winner with the best decorated sushi, but we declared all teams as winners as an encouragement for their effort.
The final activity was a drawing competition with the theme “Your Future Dream”. We saw many creative drawings. One student dreamt of becoming a beauty pageant queen and another dreamt of owning a huge mansion with a swimming pool. There was one who dreamt of opening a café in outer space, among others.
We ended the CSR event with a prize-giving ceremony for the best drawings for a few categories. Nevertheless, we also gave away consolation prizes for all who participated.
Through all these activities, we wanted to encourage the students that they too can have big dreams which are achievable if they hone their skills or ideas.
Joint CSR initiative Part 2
13 January 2024
Selangor, Malaysia
As a sequel to our 1st event held on 25 November 2023, we continued with the last and final event for FY2023 on 13 January 2024.
This time we visited Good Samaritan Home in Klang, which houses some 20 orphans and caretakers. Just like the 1st event, there were delivery of speeches, donation of PCs, cooking session, drawing competition and prize-giving ceremony.
In his speech, our Office GM Mr Katsuhito Horiguchi shared his fondness of staying in Malaysia since 4 years ago, because of the people’s hospitality and the weather. Growing up as a local country boy in Japan, he never expected that he could one day work overseas. And look where he is today. Therefore, he believes they (the orphans) have countless possibilities, and one day they too can visit or study in Japan.
What a good motivation for the children!
SCAOKL/SCMY donate 29 laptops to Ministry of Health, Malaysia
15 November 2023
Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia
On 15 November 2023, a small ceremony was held to commemorate the donation of 29 computers from SCAOKL/SCMY and 6 computers from SMFL. The ceremony was organised by the Ministry of Health, Malaysia (MOH) at its office at Putrajaya.
Mr Katsuhito Horiguchi, Office GM of SCAOKL and MD of SCMY presented the Certificate of Donation to Dato’ Sri Norazman bin Ayob, Deputy Secretary General (Finance) of Ministry of Health witnessed by Datin Paduka Dr Rohana, Director of Hospital Kuala Lumpur, Ms Miki Sashimura, MD of SMFL and others.
Earlier this year, Dato’ Sri Norazman met with members of JACTIM on several occasions to discuss the condition and challenges faced by MOH in healthcare, including the rising cost in healthcare insurance.
Many non-communicable disease (NCD) patients who were hesitant to visit healthcare facilities during the Covid-19 pandemic, had started returning to hospitals early this year. It was estimated that the number has exceeded 9 million. Public hospitals, such as Hospital Kuala Lumpur (HKL), provide free or low-cost medical services for Category B40 patients, are conducting an average of 5,000 to 6,000 outpatient consultations daily. MOH has been making every effort to improve the IT infrastructure of public hospitals due to the surge of patients. HKL being the largest public hospital with over 149 branches nationwide needs urgent support from various organisations for the immediate enhancement of its IT infrastructure. Therefore, Dato’ Sri Norazman has extended a request to all domestic and international industrial organisations including JACTIM to donate computers to HKL.
We once again worked with Rentwise to initialise our 29 computers with certification before handing over to MOH through JACTIM.
According to Dr Rohana, our computers are already in use in HKL at its Kidney Centre. We will continue to collaborate with MOH (or through JACTIM) to strengthen our relationships in the healthcare industry. We fulfilled some of the SDGs with this donation and our mandate as a socially responsible corporate citizen!
