SCIN FY2020 CSR Activities

Similar to the previous years, SCIN continues its CSR efforts through donations to various beneficiaries as well as awarding scholarships to needy students with good academic results. Three offices in SCIN collaborated with the following 4 organisations for meaningful causes.

 

1) NGO SAMADHAN

  • SAMADHAN, registered in 1981 is an NGO with dual focus on people with intellectual disability whom are also impacted by poverty in New Delhi. Service models have been developed to suit the characteristics of low socio economic target communities and today, this NGO provides community outreach for raising awareness on intellectual disability, advocacy in local mainstream schools, therapy, special education and early intervention.
  • Donated items: Desktop computers, Wi-Fi printers, laptops and other required items.


2) Janta Rehabilitation Training Centre

  • The Centre, established in 1996 is working for the welfare of the blind. Its aim is to empower the visually handicapped to lead normal lives by teaching them skills, free of charge.
  • Donated items: Desktop computers, keyboards, braille papers and other required items.


3) Bombay Young Men’s Christian Association (YMCA)

  • This NGO was established in 1875, provides education and training to needy children to make them self-sufficient and respectable citizens of India. The Bombay YMCA Street Children Programme provides its services to the “rootless and roofless” children in Mumbai, through its night shelter, daytime activities and vocational training, so that the older children can support themselves and lead an independent and dignified life. It also provides support to children from families who are poor and unable to support them.
  • Donated items: Desktop computers, laptops, computer tables and printers.


4) Sri Arunodayam Charitable Trust

  • Sri Arunodayam is a home for abandoned intellectually challenged children. Founded in 2003, it is a registered charitable trust that has received many recognitions including the government’s. The NGO has been providing a safe and caring environment for the children. It is also focusing on rehabilitation through special education and therapies to improve the quality of life of these children. At present, the home has 115 children from various age groups.
  • Donated items: Classroom furniture, sensory equipment and Audio Visual digital equipment for the classroom (including projector, LED, laptop, printer, speaker, amplifier and podium).

Besides physical donations of items, SCIN awarded scholarships to 75 students in 3 colleges located in New Delhi, Mumbai and Chennai.

 

1. St. Stephen’s College

  • Every year, 30 deserving students were honoured with Sumitomo Scholarship and they felt privileged to receive it. This year, colleges were closed due to current situation of COVID-19 in India. Therefore, we could not visit the college to conduct the scholarship distribution. Instead, we organised a virtual Sumitomo Scholarship Ceremony on 13 April 2021. SCIN Chairman & MD Mr Takuro Horikoshi, together with Mr Shunsuke Kitamura, Mr Takashi Sakuma, Mr Vivek Pandey and Ms Priyanka Garg attended the virtual ceremony.


2. Jai Hind College

  • 30 students with good academic results from Jai Hind College received Sumitomo Scholarship annually. This year, the Scholarship Distribution Ceremony was held online on 30 March 2021, and attended by all students from the safety of their homes.


3. Loyola College

  • SCIN Chennai office Ms Deepa M and Ms Pushpa attended the scholarship ceremony held at Loyola College on 22 March 2021. This time, 15 scholarships were given out to nurture our next generation.
