Banh Chung – the Soul of Vietnamese New Year (Tet)

Considered as an indispensable offering to the ancestors during Tet, Chung Cake (Bánh Chưng) is the centerpiece of Vietnamese cultural New Year celebration. The custom of wrapping Chung Cake during the traditional Tet holiday is a beautiful cultural tradition of the Vietnamese people. The warmest moment is when all family members reunite, gather- together, wrap, boil and wait for the 12-hours of cooking for the cakes to be ready. Finally, the best-looking cakes will be carefully selected to be displayed on the ancestor altar.

In contrast to the fast foods in modern life, the process of making Chung Cake takes a lot of time and efforts from many people. The main ingredients are rice, pork, and green beans wrapped in green special leaves, which will reflect the natural green color and unique fragrant after boiling.

Chung Cake is truly the soul of Vietnamese Tet. Wrapping Banh Chung is a traditional custom that we always try to preserve and inspire future generations to maintain.
