Van Phong 1 BOT Coal-Fired Power Plant Project (660MW X 2 units) located in Khanh Hoa Province led by Van Phong Power Company Limited (VPCL – a wholly owned subsidiary of Sumitomo Corporation) has achieved boiler initial firing on oil and received our first coal delivery, which are both key milestones of this project. Initial firing was accomplished on 17 February, and the ceremony was held in March 2023.

On 3 March 2023, we received the very first coal shipment, which is the important energy source for the plant.

So far, the project is progressing smoothly with the support from the EPC Contractors and all related parties. As 2023 is a remarkable year in terms of marking the 50 years relationship between Vietnam and Japan, we strive to accomplish the project completion within December 2023. VPCL will supply reliable electricity power to Vietnam for 25 years, and support the rapid growth of electricity power demand in Vietnam.
