The recent SSRI’s Corporate Social Responsibility activity included climate action goal and life on land goal out of the 17 SDGs.
We planted mangroves which we believe will provide not only essential habitat for thousands of species but also able to capture and store carbon which is one of its magnificent functions. The muddy soil that mangroves live in is extremely carbon-rich and over time the mangroves help to not only add to this store of soil by capturing sediment but hold it—and the carbon—in place.
With this belief, we conducted Mangrove Planting in Sumbawa Island. We covered 10 hectares of coastline by planting 35,000 of mangrove seedlings. Sixteen local and rotating employees from SSRI and more than 400 people from local communities were involved in the planting.
